This is a written and record of what came to light through the relationships between three teachers who have contributed to the field of multiculturalism for many years, seven students from Pakistan with diverse personalities, and the 20-something members of 「kyodo 20_30」. The project was conducted with the cooperation of the Tohoku Multicultural Academy, a Japanese language school in Sendai.

What is the future of multicultural conviviality in Japan? With Japan's declining birthrate and aging population, multicultural conviviality is an indispensable theme for the future of the country. Each of the teachers who participated in this project has been contributing to the field of multicultural conviviality for many years in different fields. One is a teacher who acts as a gateway between students and schools, another is involved with students on a daily basis and teaches them about Japanese culture, and a third is a teacher of new coronavirus infections. We were able to produce a record of dialogue from each of these different perspectives.

We then documented in text and video what we saw through our interactions with seven unique students from Pakistan. We engaged in dialogue while realizing cultural differences and communication difficulties. What came to light was that the Corona disaster is making it harder for foreigners to enter the Japanese community, and that the division between Japanese and foreigners (Pakistanis in this project) is quietly growing. I am concerned that this problem, which has not yet surfaced, will one day manifest itself in Japan. I have created this project to help people think about how we should live together in Japan, which is becoming a multicultural society.

長年多文化共生分野に寄与されている3人の先生、パキスタンからやってきた個性豊かな7人の学生と、kyodo 20_30の20代のメンバーとの関わりを通して見えてきたものを文字と映像で記録したものです。仙台にある日本語学校「一般財団法人東北多文化アカデミー」にご協力頂き実施しました。

「日本の多文化共生」の分野において、これから何が始まるのでしょうか。少子高齢化の進む日本ではこれから国を成り立たせるために多文化共生というのは欠かせないテーマです。このプロジェクトで対話した先生方はそれぞれ異なる分野で長年多文化共生分野に寄与されています。生徒と学校を繋ぐゲートウェイの役割をされている先生、日頃から学生さんと関わり日本の文化を教えている先生、新型コロナウイルス感染症の先生。それぞれ異なった視点での対話の記録を制作することができました。

そしてパキスタンからやってきた個性豊かな7人の学生との関わりを通して見えてきたものを文字と映像で記録しました。文化の違い、コミュニケーションの難しさなどを実感しながら対話を行いました。 そこから見えてきたのは、コロナ禍で外国人が日本のコミュニティに入りにくくなり、日本人と外国人(こちらのプロジェクトではパキスタン人)の分断が静かに進んでいることです。表面化していないこの問題が、いつか日本であらわれて来ることになると私は懸念しています。 多文化共生社会になる日本で、これからどのように共生していくのが望ましいかを考える一助となるようなプロジェクトを作りました。
